What Is Direct School Admission
“A pathway for students to gain admission to secondary schools based on their interests, aptitude and potential, beyond their performance at the PSLE.”
Every Primary 6 student can apply, and visual arts is one of the talent areas schools recruit for — alongside sports, performing arts, languages, STEM and leadership. One thing parents should know before applying: a place accepted through DSA is a commitment. Successful students do not take part in the Secondary One posting and cannot transfer schools after the PSLE results are released.

The Mechanics
How The Offer Works
A Conditional Offer First
Schools issue a conditional offer before PSLE results are out. Once a DSA offer is secured, the student only needs to meet the school's minimum qualifying PSLE criteria to gain admission — a confirmed offer admits the student straight into Secondary 1.
What Schools Screen
Academic screening looks at Primary 5 results and the Primary 6 SA1; students who meet the school's bar receive a selection invitation. For non-academic talents such as art, the academic requirement can sit six to eight points below the school's cut-off.
The Selection Day
Shortlisted students typically face a Visual Arts interview together with an on-the-spot drawing test; some schools run a separate selection test before the interview.
Three Possible Outcomes
Results come back as Offered, Waitlisted or Unsuccessful — trackable in the MOE DSA-Sec portal. Families then rank their school preferences, and once submitted the ranking cannot be changed.

After The Offer · AEP And EAP
AEP
The Art Elective Programme is the Ministry of Education's enhanced art track at selected schools; for students admitted through it, lessons begin in Term 1.
EAP
The Enhanced Art Programme is a two-year course: students take advanced art in Secondary 3 and 4, and on entering junior college are exempted from one H1 subject. Entry is by a school selection exercise in Secondary 2, and EAP students pay no additional course fees.

What is DSA (Direct School Admission)?
DSA (Direct School Admission) provides a pathway for students to gain admission to secondary schools based on their interests, aptitude and potential, beyond their performance at the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE). A parallel scheme, DSA-JC, offers the same pathway into junior colleges — again on talent and potential, rather than on O-Level results alone.

What is the DSA application timeline?
Families explore school choices from January to May, then apply from May to early June through MOE's DSA-Sec Portal — one application allows up to three choices, with at most two for the same school. Shortlisted students attend each school's own interviews, auditions or trials between June and September, and schools notify applicants of the outcome by mid-September. Students holding offers rank up to three school choices in October, and school allocations are released together with the PSLE results in late November.
Does applying through DSA cost anything?
No — MOE charges no application fees for DSA-Sec. Do note two things: some DSA schools may charge extra fees for their special art programmes, so it is worth budgeting for that; and a place accepted through DSA is a commitment — successful students do not take part in Secondary One posting and cannot transfer schools after the PSLE results are released.
How many choices can we submit?
One application allows up to three choices — across different schools or different talent areas, with at most two choices for the same school and at most two talent areas in one application.
