The art pathway does not close after Primary 6 — two further doors open during secondary school.
Enhanced Art Programme (EAP)
A two-year programme in which students take Advanced Art in Secondary 3 and 4 — with exemption from one H1 subject upon admission to a junior college, and no additional school fees. Entry runs through selection trials conducted by the school in Secondary 2, so the portfolio work starts in Secondary 1.
DSA-JC
The same direct-admission idea, one level up: before the O-Level examination, students can apply to junior colleges through DSA on the strength of their artistic talent and potential. O-Level Art — offered as a subject at over a hundred government schools — is the academic backbone of that application.

What is DSA Visual Art?
DSA Visual Art is a Direct School Admission pathway that lets students gain admission to secondary schools and junior colleges based on their artistic interests, aptitude, and potential—beyond their performance at the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) or O-Level.
When should my child start preparing?
Applications open in the middle of Primary 6, but a strong portfolio is built over time—each piece can take months to refine, and the skills behind it grow across the primary years. Starting focused preparation one to two years ahead gives your child room to develop a portfolio at their own pace.
How does DSA Visual Art selection work?
Families explore school choices from January to May, then apply from May to early June through MOE's DSA-Sec Portal — one application allows up to three choices, with at most two for the same school. Shortlisted students attend each school's own interviews, auditions or trials between June and September, and schools notify applicants of the outcome by mid-September. Students holding offers rank up to three school choices in October, and school allocations are released together with the PSLE results in late November.
What goes into a DSA Art portfolio?
Most schools ask for a portfolio as part of the application. A strong one shows variety across styles and techniques, picks the pieces that best highlight your child's abilities, and includes a short personal note on why they love art. A single piece can take months to refine — panels read a portfolio for individual expression as much as technique.
What happens at the selection stage?
Each school designs its own assessment — for Visual Art applicants this typically means an interview plus on-site art making. Tree Art students prepare through mock interviews, learning to explain the thinking behind their work, and through regular practice so the task on the day feels familiar.
