《生者对死者无动于衷》
Damien Hirst, one of the most influential contemporary artists worldwide, was born in the United Kingdom in 1965. He played a significant role in shaping the British contemporary art scene in the 90s and has an extraordinary obsession with “life,” a theme that is reflected in most of his works.

“If animals in a zoo are dead, they don’t have to suffer,” said British contemporary artist Damien Hirst, echoing his most famous work—a tiger shark preserved in formaldehyde. This piece, “The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living,” shattered records at an auction and remains the second highest-grossing work of contemporary art globally.
“如果一个动物园，里面的动物是死的，动物们就不必受苦了……”，英国当代艺术家Damien Hirst悠悠说道，正好呼应了他最出名的作品———泡在甲醛里的虎鲨，也正是拍卖会上创下惊人数值的大作《生者对死者无动于衷》(The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living)”，直到今天，这依然是全球第二高价当代艺术拍品。
Controversially, some consider the piece to be merely a specimen, but many others view it from a humanitarian perspective, believing that it showcases human disregard and cruelty towards life.
极富争议的是，部分人认为这项作品是标本而已，但很多人从人性光辉的层面出发，觉得这样的作品表现出人类对生命的无视与残忍。
Hirst’s mother always encouraged him to pursue a career in the arts. Undeterred, he attended the University of London and worked part-time in a mortuary, where he developed a unique understanding of life and death. From a young age, Hirst displayed an interest in depicting life forms, and this fascination led to the formation of his unique style.

《樱花盛放》
Unknown to many, Hirst is also passionate about painting. “Cherry Blossoms,” a work completed in November 2020 after three years, was exhibited at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain. The series features a total of 107 paintings, each handcrafted by Hirst, who described the process as “diving into the canvas, filling every blank space with dedication.”
或许大家不知道，但其实赫斯特对绘画也有极大的热枕，这幅《樱花盛放》历时了3年的时间，才在2020年11月大功告成，并在卡地亚当代艺术基金会展出。此系列总共有107幅画作，都是由赫斯特亲手完成，他表示这次的创作就是：「一头栽进画布里，一端又一端，尽情填满每个空白。」
Damien Hirst, who is committed to exploring the theme of life, describes his “Cherry Blossoms” series as a study of beauty and mortality, combining masterful technique with playful vulgarity at times. The natural beauty of cherry blossoms, transformed for decorative purposes, reflects human desire and their manipulation of the world around them, while also symbolizing the transient nature of beauty beneath clear skies.
致力探讨生命的赫斯特表示：「《樱花盛放》系列探讨的是美丽与生死，手法极致，有些地方甚至近乎俗气。樱花天然的美被转化为装饰用途，反映出欲望以及人类如何對待与改变周遭事物，在清澈天空之下大肆盛开的樱花树，也凸显美的转瞬即逝。」
《爱的内在与外在》
In the exhibition titled “In and Out of Love,” Hirst showcased 9,000 butterflies confined in an enclosed white space, allowing viewers to observe their feeding habits up close. While this avant-garde artistic approach received praise, it also garnered criticism due to the numerous butterfly deaths caused by factors such as collisions with walls and being stepped on by viewers. Although Hirst provided an explanation stating that professional insect experts were caring for the butterflies, the artwork remains highly controversial.
在《爱的內在与外在》的展覽中，赫斯特将9,000蝴蝶关在密闭的全白空间，观众可以近距離地看到蝴蝶觅食的样子，虽然这个艺术很前卫，但也备受批评，因为这9,000只蝴蝶在期间有許多都因撞墙、观众踩踏等不自原因而死，虽然赫斯特有做出说明，表示有专业昆虫专家在照顾蝴蝶，但这个作品还是存在极大的争议。
