What is DSA?
什么是DSA？
DSA stands for Direct School Admission in Singapore. It’s a program designed to provide students with special talents an opportunity to gain direct entry into secondary schools, allowing schools to recognize and admit students based on their specific talents in areas that may not be reflected in the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results.
新加坡的DSA(新加坡中学直接收生计划）是指让有特殊才艺的学生扩大升学途径，让学校将焦点放在肯定学生在特定领域的才华，也就是中国指的美术特长生。
中学直接招生计划（DSA-Sec）让具有不同天赋和成就，而且这些天赋和成就可能无法体现在小六会考成绩中的学生直接申请入学。参与计划的学校可在小六会考成绩放榜前，根据学生在某些学术和/或非学术领域的天赋和成就，以及是否与学校整体课程匹配，直接录取小六毕业生，进入中一课程。录取后，学校将通过相关的项目，继续培养他们的才华。

There are three main categories of secondary schools in Singapore: autonomous, government, and independent. All three types of schools participate in the DSA program. Currently, there are 146 participating schools with a total of 3500 places reserved for DSA. Independent schools can reserve up to 20% of their places for DSA, while autonomous and specialised schools can reserve 10% and 5% of their places, respectively.
新加坡的中学一般分为自主中学、自治中学、政府中学，这三类学校均有DSA直接招生计划，参与中学DSA的学校共有146所，总计有3500个名额。目前，新加坡自主学校保留给DSA的学额，高达20％。自治学校和有专长项目的学校的录取比率，则为10％和5％。

DSA申请流程
DSA Application Process
For international students aiming for direct entry into secondary schools, the primary routes are AEIS/S-AEIS examinations, where the Singapore Ministry of Education will allocate schools based on student performance.
For progression from primary to secondary schools, there are two main avenues: DSA and standard admission schemes.
Primary 6 students can choose to participate in Secondary School DSA and bypass the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE). Students who are admitted to their secondary schools through DSA (with reserved places) cannot participate in the standard Secondary One school allocation process and are not allowed to transfer schools before the release of PSLE results.
If parents are not in Singapore during the application process for their children, they can authorize others to collect their children’s PSLE results and Secondary One school choice forms on their behalf.
对于国际学生来说，想要直接进入中学阶段留学，主要途径是AEIS/S-AEIS考试，新加坡教育部会根据学生的成绩安排学校。
而从小学阶段晋升中学主要有两个途径，分别是DSA和常规招生方案。
小六学生可选择是否要参加中学DSA，跳过小六会考。在进入中学DSA获得录取的学生(直接招生学校为他们提前保留了学额)，不可参加常规的中一学校分配，并且在小六会考成绩出炉前，不可转校。
如果在孩子办理中学报名手续期间，家长不在新加坡，可以授权他人代为领取孩子的小六会考成绩以及中一学校选择表格。

According to the official statement of the Singapore Ministry of Education, the aim is to expand opportunities for students with special talents in specific fields to directly enter prestigious schools, thereby acknowledging their efforts, and allowing schools to absorb students with exceptional abilities through various channels.

Even in Primary 6, intense competitions and training can extend until June or even August.
While most children can extend their revision time up to a year, specialized students have to start from scratch, making DSA the exclusive choice for talented students.
Balancing Pros and Cons: While excelling in PSLE demands a grueling year, DSA relies on tactics and strategies for quick success. The benefits are evident, making it a consideration for parents when applying for DSA.
根据新加坡教育部的官方表示，旨在扩大特定领域的专才入读直通车学校的机会，籍此对孩子们的努力给予认可，同时也让学校多个渠道吸收拥有特殊才华的学生。
寻找可持续的优质平台：无论是才艺，抑或学术，出类拔萃绝非一朝一夕之事。
即便到了小六，密集的比赛和训练还会排到六月，甚至八月。
大多数孩子的复习时间可以拉长至一年，但特长生的学习则是化整为零、见缝插针，因此DSA成了特长生的不二之选。
权衡利弊拼效益：决胜PSLE，拼的是一整年的艰苦卓绝;而DSA，凭借技巧和战术打短平快。效益比显而易见，是家长申请DSA的考量之一。

In secondary schools, children will face competitions from seniors and student councils, and selections and screening processes for extracurricular activities and events. Opportunities require adaptability and interview skills, which are akin to DSA’s nature. For long-term planning or short-term development, DSA equips children with essential life skills. The sooner these skills are imparted, the better.
进入中学，孩子们将面对学长、学生会各种的竞选，还有各类课外活动、竞赛的筛选和选拔。争取机会，需要应变能力和面试技巧。这与DSA又是异曲同工。
无论是远期规划，还是近期发展，DSA都是孩子们人生必备的软技能。这些技能早一天传授给孩子们，孩子们就早一天受益。

The school doesn’t need to be the best, but it needs to be the most compatible with your child’s interests, talent development, and preferences for courses and the school environment.
